About this series
About this series
The windswept pines, rocky islands, and rugged shores of Georgian Bay are enduring symbols of the Canadian north and the landscapes that inspired the Group of Seven. Southern Lights builds on that legacy, reminding us what is at stake as Ontario’s government trades public land to foreign corporations, threatening even the sites where Tom Thomson and A.Y. Jackson once painted. Inspired by the surveyor’s self-levelling laser, the work casts an unnatural glow across trees and shorelines, suggesting destruction already in motion. Each composition is created entirely in-camera, with no manipulation beyond colour correction, urging reflection on how we protect these wild spaces.
