About this series
About this series
The city of Toronto is right in the middle of an ancient migratory bird route, home to some 410 species of birds over the course of a year. Birds have become part of the city fabric and are found throughout the urban landscape. Many birds of prey have declined in and around Toronto due to habitat loss: the open grasslands that Short-eared owls require have been fragmented and developed, and the large expanses of forest required by Northern Saw- whet, Barred, and Long-eared owls have been replaced by houses and highways. Inspired by the camera trap aesthetic, these photos feature birds of prey in the small stashes of nature scattered throughout the city.
